24 hours in… STIRLING

Stirling is Scotland’s newest city, having been granted such status as recently as 2002 (Perth’s centuries-long city status was reinstated in 2012 after a brief reclassification). The real surprise is that this hadn’t happened far sooner, given the historic and geographic significance of this former market town. For while Stirling sits less than 40 miles from Scotland’s two largest cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, it has remained one of the country’s most hotly-contested strongholds for the last 1,000 years.
