Bonfires galore…

Remember, remember the 5th of November!

AUTUMN is the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness – and bonfires! And never more so than around 5 November, when we celebrate the burning of a terrorist! Mmm… Anyway, for whatever reason, people all round the UK are lighting bonfires at this time, as well as setting off fireworks and eating toffee apples by the million. Of course, the bonfire itself is a great opportunity for the gardener to get rid of garden waste. However, Covid-19 notwithstanding, is it really sensible to light a fire, both from the point of view of the law, and the environmental impact (including possibly annoying the neighbours)? Also, what are some of the garden and plant associations with fire? Let’s find out.
