BUTTON BACK IN BRITAIN

Since the start of this season, the name ‘Jenson’ has been present on the British GT championship’s entry lists. In the form of the Jenson Team Rocket RJN squad.

And, yes, the Jenson concerned is that Jenson. The 2009 Formula 1 world champion Button formed the team last year with long-time friend, and Le Mans LMP2 winner, Chris Buncombe. They partnered with the established RJN Motorsport outfit and, with Plan A to race in GT World Challenge Europe this year scuppered by Covid’s implications, the squad instead has raced a single McLaren 720S GT3 in British GT.

The concept of Button perhaps getting behind the wheel of a 720S has therefore since been floated around British GT’s media room at least once. But strictly as pie-in-the-sky rumination. No-one could really imagine it happening. But happening it is.
