I CARRIED MY LEG out of the bush

Walking through the rocky terrain, I felt on top of the world.

There’s nothing like a bushwalk, I thought.

An avid hiker, I adored getting out in nature. I was part of a bushwalkers group and often led walks.

But in September 2019, I was tackling the three-hour trail at Cabbage Tree Creek, Mount Nebo, Qld, alone.

It was a rocky track with obstacles, and even though I’d done it loads of times before, I wanted to be safe.
