Apart from offering users the option to make cosmetic changes such as background image, power settings and setting a custom icon theme, these distros provide the option to make changes to just about everything else, too. Be it kernel modules to install and load to installing only your hand-picked packages, and more.

Unlike desktop distributions that are built to cater to a large number of user and use cases out of the box, these distros are versatile enough to be customised will require considerable user involvement before they’re ready for everyday use.
