BABY DONE
OUT NOW CERT TBC / 91 MINS
DIRECTOR Curtis Vowell
CAST Rose Matafeo, Matthew Lewis, Rachel House, Emily Barclay
PLOT Having a baby is a tumultuous, life-changing experience at the best of times, but an unexpected pregnancy is a complete disaster for tree surgeon and free spirit Zoe (Matafeo). While her boyfriend Tim (Lewis) is set to embrace parenthood, Zoe is in complete denial about the whole thing and her dogged refusal to face reality threatens to fracture her relationship with Tim.
NEW ZEALAND HAS been exporting some wonderful comedies in recent years and comfortably joinsand fame — and his fingerprints are clearly all over the production. But it’s Rose Matafeo’s self-assured performance as reluctant mother-to-be Zoe that is the glue holding this amiable, occasionally edgy film together. At times, it’s as if she’s channelling the chaotic playfulness and cheeky vulnerability of Phoebe Waller-Bridge at her finest.
