Let the bells ring out

CAROLINE WELCH describes the atmosphere in these old Welsh churches as something on which). It’s simple: they are houses of God where, for hundreds, even thousands of years, people have prayed and left a strong feeling of the presence of the Creator. We have spent a considerable time doing up St Brynach’s church tower and bells in Nevern, Pembrokeshire (), at a cost of nearly half a million pounds. This is an ancient church where the atmosphere can be so powerful it is sometimes impossible to stand. Perhaps on one’s knees is the best place to be. Nevern is on an ancient pilgrim’s trail and, since the 6th century, many people have passed through on their way to St David’s. We expect our 10 new bells to be ringing out by Christmas, , to lighten the hearts of our 25,000 annual visitors. .
