Jo Stone, 48, is a senior nurse at The Royal Marsden’s Oak Centre for Children and Young People, in London. The facility is one of the largest comprehensive children and young people’s cancer centres in Europe. Jo lives in London with her husband and two sons, aged 13 and 15.
I always knew I wanted to work in children’s nursing. Some people may think it’s upsetting working with children who are very ill, but they make it so lovely and there’s a great sense of hope. Helping and caring for people is what nursing is all about. It’s an incredibly rewarding job. The centre is a beautiful and uplifting environment. It’s a fun, exciting and vibrant place to be.
I’ve worked at The Royal Marsden for almost 25 years and I always tend to work the week before Christmas. In fact, it’s my favourite week of the year because it’s all about the children. There’s so much going on. Even poorly children are full
