Get creative with gift wrapping
Taking the time to beautifully wrap gifts will bring joy to both you and the recipients, making opening them a moment to truly savour – so set aside an afternoon and make an occasion of it. It is most meaningful when each package is slightly different, tailored to each individual. There are many luxury papers around, but for something unique try using elaborate wallpaper and fabric samples; repurpose old maps, sheet music and book pages; make your own design by block printing; or simply use kraft paper and accessorise with ribbons, old costume jewellery or sprigs of foliage.
Invest in the tree
Going on a family outing to choose the Christmas tree is one of the main highlights of the season, topped only by decorating it. Make sure your tree is sustainably sourced and ideally grown in the UK. Ask if the supplier belongs to the British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA), as its members agree to farm trees in such a way that they have a positive impact on the environment. This means they follow strict guidelines on where they buy their seeds, what pesticides and herbicides to use, and when and how trees are harvested to minimise impact on wildlife. Only a small percentage of the grower’s trees should be felled each year, and these will be replaced by new saplings
