Editor’s Letter

pending quality time with loved ones is what Christmas is all about, but this year we will likely miss out on seeing many of our family and friends. We don’t know what the restrictions is championing a Christmas that is nostalgic, joyful, handmade and sustainable. For the first time ever, we commissioned an illustrated front cover to set the scene, and I think the super-talented Josie Shenoy did a fabulous job of showing how the home is truly the centre of wonder and merriment at this time of year. So often, Christmas is a period of excess and waste, so I hope the magazine inspires you to make more thoughtful choices, not only in the gifts you buy but in the way you decorate your home. Instead of making a mad dash to the high street, discover handmade and craft-led presents that lucky recipients will cherish (page 42); add cheer to your home with unique, colourful decorations by designer-makers and independent shops (page 34); and take the time to forage for greenery and create your own natural wreath (page 28). Of course, there should still be plenty of opportunities to indulge, so don’t miss our guide to making a gingerbread house (page 132) and recipes to cook up a classic festive feast (page 137). Finally, this month you can subscribe to for just £29.99 for a year and receive a beautiful Sophie Allport apron and teatowel, as well as a recipe book, together worth £39.99. It’s the perfect treat for yourself or gift for someone special. Wishing you a very merry Christmas from the whole team. I hope the issue helps you to make the most of the season, however you choose to celebrate.
