Smart chargers for maximum battery performance
CAR batteries have more demands than ever placed on them, though the most essential is still holding enough charge to start an engine in all conditions. Prolonged periods of inactivity can be the ruin of an otherwise good battery
Here in the UK, the extended Covid-19 lockdown period did much to drain vehicle batteries left idle while ECU memory, ICE, alarms and immobilisers remained on standby. Reports from suppliers of these smart chargers suggest a significant rise in purchases during and after the lockdown period, as owners struggled to start vehicles left dormant for weeks at a time.
The same is true of Land Rovers used occasionally, whether the battery is connected or disconnected. Cranking over a cold diesel engine or large petrol engine requires plenty of amps, so battery condition is paramount for reliability. The best way to ensure a battery retains full capacity is to keep its cells rejuvenated. Failure to do this causes internal issues and reduced output.
