SIU FREEZES PAYMENTS FOR PPE TENDERS

About R60 million in payments due to personal protective equipment (PPE) service providers to the Free State health department has been halted following an investigation by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on the Covid-19 tenders to supply surgical gowns.

Last Friday, the SIU issued an interim instruction via email to the Free State treasury and health department, “asking them, inter alia, not to proceed with the payments pending our investigation”.
