A CLOSER LOOK…

This unusual double-sided ‘Aesthetic’ teapot is on display at thein 1881. Inscribed on the teapot’s base are the words: ‘Fearful consequences, through the laws of natural selection and evolution of living up to one’s teapot’. The inscription refers to Charles Darwin’s theories and to an exhibition of a single oriental teapot at the Grosvenor Gallery, where visitors were encouraged to go home and ‘live up to it’.
