Gavin Houghton says colourful ceilings are his ‘thing’, and the one in his drawing room has recently been painted mustard. ‘You know how pubs used to be when everyone smoked,’ is how he describes the effect. It’s his favourite room in the house, either when he and his partner, Boz Gagovski, have friends over for dinner, or in the evenings when the fire’s going and the two of them are sitting there with Jack and Jill, their two Jack Russells.
