A MYTHICAL MOUNTAIN SPIRIT is watching over us. The Krkonoše, known in English as the ‘Giant Mountains’ of the Czech Republic, are the domain of Lord Krakonoš, a bearded Gandalf-like being with a capricious temperament. To the good of heart, he is friendly and paternal; to those who cross him, he exacts severe revenge, sending lightning bolts and snowstorms to punish them. Will we feel his wrath or garner his favour?
