recorded for many a year has just closed and in quite extraordinary style. I'm not prone to ranting in this column but I have to say that the handling of the cancellation of both British Marine's Boats2020 and quickly. I thought when Cannes Boat Show was cancelled with two weeks to go that it was a bit rough, but it turns out that was a picnic compared to Southampton's strife. Plus, Cannes should have come as a warning sign. Of course, in these situations, people need someone to blame and hopefully we will at some point get an indication of exactly who ordered the plug to be pulled at such insanely short notice when all the exhibitors were fully financially committed. Meanwhile, the efforts of both organisers who put a huge amount of work into putting the shows together were left in ruins. While we wait for answers as to what precisely happened, the marine industry as a whole must dust itself off and start again.
