The R2.5 billion Tambo Springs flagship project run by state freight and rail entity Transnet has been referred to the Special Investigating Unit after an internal review showed prima facie evidence of procurement irregularities, fraud, corruption and improper conduct.
In June last year, Southern Palace Group led a joint venture consortium announced as the preferred bidder for the Ekurhuleni-based Tambo Springs Intermodal Terminal, which consists of industrial installations, logistics areas, rail access, secure and bonded locations, and transportation corridors.
