IDENTITY

Ringers are out there – so check the chassis number on the V5 matches the VIN plate (riveted to the slam panel) and number stamped into the driver’s-side inner sill (beneath a flap in the carpet). A Cabriolet’s VIN should read WFOLXXGKLL, followed by numbers that match the engine code (found on the cylinder block). Cabriolets also have the number handwritten in marker pen beneath the padding on the roll bar.

Limited-edition convertibles command a premium, so your biggest concern will be ensuring it’s pukka – especially the most desirable All White and All Blue (incidentally, late-spec Two-Tones have the highest survival rate). Indeed, most so-called Tennis Cabriolets turn out to be standard white cars.
