Engine lid makeover

One job that has been nagging away at me for some time on my VW campervan concerns the engine lid and its wobbly, worn hinges. Every time I opened or closed the lid, I was reminded of this problem, which wasn’t getting any better. The problem is caused by worn hinge pins, which result in excessive free play between the two halves of the hinge. Eventually it got so bad that I had to lift and support the engine lid to open or close it because it always dropped.
