In a burgeoning tractor market, Allis-Chalmers (A-C) faced stiff competition from Massey Ferguson and Ford with their established models. And about to be challenged by the imminent launches of the MF 65 and Fordson Dexta models A-C made a big splash in the Smithfield preview issue of the Farm Implement & Machinery Review of 1947.

The D272 was “the tractor that has everything you’ve asked for” claimed A-C who even offered every farmer a demonstration of the tractor on their own land to convince them that “the tougher the tests
