HELLAS LIBERTY A floating museum and a ‘blessed ship’

The Liberty ship Arthur M. Huddell was completed on 18 December 1943, 56 days after her keel laying by the St Johns River Shipbuilding Co, at Jacksonville, Florida. The War Shipping Administration placed the vessel, which was named in honour of a past president of the International Union of Operating Engineers, under the wartime management of New York ship owners A. H. Bull & Co.

After loaded explosives and general cargo in Jacksonville, she sailed for New York, in February 1944, where she joined a convoy for London. She returned to Norfolk, Virginia in March 1944. Carrying explosives
