September is a month of change. Colours move from the dusty green of August to early autumn tones. There is no riot of hues yet in the woods and hedgerows, merely a shift, an acknowledgement that summer is at its end. We say goodbye to the turtle doves, swallows, swifts and martins. The cuckoos are already long gone.
