THE life and work of Barnett Freedman, echoing those of Edward McKnight Kauffer (Artist of the Week, August 5), exemplify the fickleness of fame. Both artists excelled as illustrators, as well as designing posters for Shell and the London Underground, and, for a time, both were household names. Yet, today, they are barely known, although many of the images they created remain instantly recognisable.
