CARS HAVE been bouncing back and forth between the US and the UK for years, and sometimes the same vehicle does the crossing many times. This 3.4 saloon was first sold into America in 1959 and stayed there until the mid-Nineties when it was bought and returned to the UK. Now, after passing through the workshops of Woodham Mortimer, it is heading to Massachusetts.

Back in summer 1959, its first owner, Californian Richard Zimmer, took a month’s holiday in the UK to coincide with collecting his new Jaguar from the Coventry factory. He’d placed an order in America for a 3.4 saloon (Mk 1) with automatic transmission, finished in black with red interior, and running on steel wheels.
