The proposed renaming of East London Airport to King Phalo Airport has been met with resistance from some traditional leaders in the province, who claim it is undermining them.
This comes after the Eastern Cape Provincial Geographical Names Committee published proposed new names for four places on August 27.
The proposal included changing the name of King William’s Town to Qonce, Berlin to Ntabozuko, East London to KuGompo and East London Airport to King Phalo Airport.
