Getting to grips with Krav Maga

Many believe he came in contact with the ‘Defendu’ or ‘Gutter Fighting’ system of combat, as it was often known, as designed by ‘Bill’ Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes, two veterans from the Shanghai municipal police who survived some harrowing encounters in the most dangerous city in the world at that time.

At the outbreak of World War Two, the Allied forces found the simple but brutal system of Fairbairn and Sykes ideal to fast-track raw recruits and turn them into effective killers in a matter of weeks. The fighting knife they designed still adorns the world’s premier Special Forces unit beret, the winged dagger of the SAS, which should tell you something about the effectiveness of their system and weapons.
