Falkland Islands Definitives 1938-1951

The creators of the 1938 Falkland definitives faced two challenges: to stand out from all the other George VI sets that were appearing at the same time, and to follow on from the 1933 Falklands Tricentennial set (also created by Bradbury Wilkinson) which had become an Empire classic.

This time, the brief was to use locally produced designs and photographs. Most values were designed by G Roberts, a member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Council. Pictures came from a variety of sources, including local people and the Natural History Museum for some of the wildlife.
