The Politician is voted best in show

COVID-19 quarantine regulations yielded an unexpected positive when Ellis Taverner-Burns, 18, landed her first Philip Judge overall supreme of show title, scoring on her show ring debut with the beautifully mannered intermediate show hunter The Politician (Smithy).

Ellis was supposed to be holidaying in France, but her plans were scuppered by the recently imposed restrictions and so she opted to come to this show instead, bringing just one animal to contest the final day.

Sarah Maclean-Perriment’s Team Harvey-produced 13-year-old was right on song, though, prompting judge Philip Hilton to comment: “The standard of the exhibits was excellent, but my winner was just beautiful in all its paces. It had a fabulous walk, a marvellous trot and covered so much ground in canter. Plus it really lowered and lengthened at gallop.”
