Engine mystery
raham’s column, Flights of Fancy, in the July 2020 issue took me back 60 years when the aluminium founders I worked for received full-scale drawings of parts of a light alloy engine of narrow angle V4 layout. The block was to be wet-linered. Making allowance for the liners and assuming square bore and stroke, the capacity would have been about 1.5 litres. The cylinder head had provision for a central camshaft, indicating very short pushrods and rockers. The rocker cover and sump may have been of magnesium. One presumes it was intended for a FWD car.
