As any writer of fiction intended for women’s magazines will tell you, editors expect their contributors to be well ahead of the game when it comes to submitting to future issues, especially in the case of seasonal stories.
This means submitting Christmas stories in summer or (at the latest) in early autumn, and summer stories in winter or (at the latest) early spring.
A novelist will usually need to send Christmas-themed fiction to a publisher even earlier
