‘Immediately after graduating with an English degree, I started the novel writing course with Writing Magazine,’ writes subscribe Serena Kaur.

‘I loved it. The course was comprehensive and the information regarding the book market was extremely valuable. Having the support of a tutor so early on definitely gave me the momentum I needed to write my novel. The regular feedback I received helped me shape my novel and dissolved my self-doubt – something I know a lot of writers battle with. I highly recommend it.

‘And now? I’m a published author. My debut novel, All the Words Unspoken, was published on the 16 April by Red Door Press.

‘The journey to publication wasn’t easy. I wrote my novel while housebound with ME in a tiny studio in Cambridge. Because the condition involves profound fatigue and pain, all I did was write and sleep, write and sleep, write and sleep, until my novel was complete.

‘Writing and editing the novel were challenging, of course. However, I found the process of submitting to agents and publishers to be even more difficult. If you’re reading this and going through it now, keep going. Dealing with rejection isn’t easy, but it’s important to remember all writers deal with rejection at some stage. If you can get through this period (and don’t doubt that you will), you’ll get through a lot.
