• The Cenotaph monument to the UK’s war dead, designed by Edwin Lutyens, is unveiled in Whitehall
• Silent movie The Mark of Zorro, seen as the prototype for Batman, went on release. A 20th Century Fox version of Mark of Zorro starring Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell, was released 20 years later, in November 1940.
