n 1839 ministers of parliament sent and received their mail with no charge. Such mail items are both intriguing and collectable, often featuring the signatures of famous politicians of the past. It is no great shock to learn that Members of Parliament, in the time of Oliver Cromwell, objected to paying for their mail. They forced the Protector to grant them free postage. Eager
