Taking the lid off

THE utility Land Rover is an amazingly versatile vehicle for many reasons, but one particularly interesting aspect of the 90 and 110 models is the ability to change the body configuration to the owner’s needs or whims.

Many pick-up (or truck cab) models have been converted to hard top by removing the cab and replacing it with side panels, a roof panel and a rearsafari door. Conversely, it is easy to convert a hard top to pick-up configuration by fitting a cab and a tailgate. The various body panels required are still reasonably easy to acquire and the engineering involved requires mostly spanners and socket wrenches, and perhaps a few new seals.
