Brake shoe struggle

n theory, fitting a new set of brake shoes to a short wheelbase Series vehicle should be a simple process. The ten inch single leading shoe drum brake used on these vehicles (and on the back axle of the Ninety and Defender 90 until 1993) is a simple, robust and very effective design. Most of the problems I come across are caused by people fitting the return springs incorrectly so that either the shoes are pulled away from the backplate, or the trailing shoe is unable to float freely and self-adjust as the designers intended.
