Discovering the Fauntleroy A ffair

I wonder how many readers have researched the history of the house they live in, or perhaps the history of a house that has always interested them? In my case it was Broadfield House in Crawley, Sussex, a Georgian mansion built in the early 1800s. It is situated on what was once the main London to Brighton Road (A23) just south of Crawley.

I lived in a cottage on the Broadfield estate with my parents and three siblings as my father was caretaker and head gardener there from 1946 to 1979.

We children enjoyed playing on the veranda, exploring the creepy cellars and roaming the extensive woods and gardens.

It’s a house that has always fascinated me and I decided to find out more about its history which has resulted in my book, Broadfield House: History and Memories.
