BIBLICAL MONEY

It’s said that money makes the world go round, and that was as true in ancient times as it is today.
The Old Testament mentions numerous financial transactions, from paying the proper wages for a job of work (Lev 19:13) to Abraham buying a burial cave for his wife for 400 shekels of silver (Genesis 23:16). In the New Testament, too, we can read about everything from tax collecting to money lending. Working out exactly what currency these ancient chroniclers meant, though, isn’t always easy.
When the Old Testament mentions money it usually means precious metals, which have been cast into standardised weights.
