A break from the norm

Following on from the article in the May issue of T&M, in which we looked at Wayne Elphick’s 1977 Zetor 6748, while researching various aspects of it I was informed that Damian McKenna was also restoring a rare example of the model. His example features a torque converter that was purportedly built for the Belgian market only.

I will come to the 6748 in more detail shortly, but first it is worth explaining how Damian came to restore the tractor, as well as a pair of Zetor 6718s that have gone off to two satisfied customers.

Damian’s respect for Zetor began in 1979 when he purchased a new 6718 for his silage contracting business. It was always a good workhorse, particularly when harvesting silage with a Taarup single-chop harvester. Damian later hauled trailers to the silage pit with it, using a Zetor 8011 with a Kidd double-chop and trailer behind it to do the harvesting. On 29 May
