SAFETY CABS

Dear T&M,
Having read the May edition about tractor cabs, it reminded me of my temporary attachment as an agricultural engineering student to the Research & Engineering section of Ford at Basildon, in the summer of 1968.

Jonathan Whitlam’s description of a ‘noisy, vibration-ridden metal box’ brings back memories! As he wrote, cabs were in their infancy and one of the projects I was involved with was researching how to make them quieter.

This involved the following process: Padding would be placed in various places in the cab and then I would drive a tractor around the test track at Dunton with a microphone
