Q I am about to service my FE 35, which has the Standard 23C four-cylinder diesel engine fitted. It hasn’t been serviced in ages and the engine oil is very black, and the pressure is a little on the low side when the engine is hot and idling.
My first question is what the best grade of oil is to use in these engines; bearing in mind the engine is past its first flush of youth. I don’t intend rebuilding the engine yet, as it starts and runs well for an old one!
