GOLDENSTAR Superferries across the Aegean

Despite operating in a highly competitive market, with competition from Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, Fast Ferries and Seajets, Golden Star Ferries has grown successfully. The company began operations in March 2011 when brothers Georgios and Dimitris Stefanou, from the Island of Andros and owners of the Bulk shipping company Bright Navigation, purchased the 1974-built ferry Superferry II, together with the Rafina-Andros-Tinos-Mykonos route from Atticaowned Blue Star Ferries.

Attica’s disposal of the vessel for €4.65 million was part of a fleet rationalisation strategy and concentration of sailings at Piraeus, ahead of the deliveries of the large new ferries Blue Star Delos and Blue Star Patmos. For the Stefanous, the acquisition of a ferry represented a change of direction, as they had previously concentrated on cargo vessels, but the brothers still own Bright Navigation, which currently operates nine bulkers.
