NATIONAL FLAGSHIP
HISTORIC SHIPS
In response to the impact of Covid-19 on the maritime heritage sector, National Historic Ships UK made a significant change to its Flagship of the Year scheme. Usually reflecting the cruising programme or visitor numbers of each craft, applications were welcomed for ‘virtual flagships’ in recognition of the fact that many historic vessels had to cease operations or postpone events through circumstances beyond their control.
The Flagship Awards were given to ships for their tenacity in continuing to raise their profile throughout the Covid-19 outbreak. The 2020 National Flagship is HMS Belfast, with a series of regional flagships, including Medway Queen and Zebu.

Finland allowed international ferry travel from the 14 May to Tallinn for those working in either country or who have ‘an important reason’. On 1 June all foot passengers were permitted on ferries subject to rules, even though officially discouraged from travelling.
