IT’S BEEN refreshed. The paint is new and the three-layer hood has been replaced, but so sympathetically that itmatches the nicely aged interior. Optionedwith suede green seats and red piping, the smellwafting through the air could be fromgrandfather’s study, where he sits reading in that great winged-back leather chair.

Did anyone have a grandfather with his mythical study? I certainly didn’t (unless you count the snug at the local pub, his hidey-hole), but a friend knew something close. His grandfather’s walls were surrounded by vinyl records, and his chair (was it winged? I can’t remember) was carefully positioned to take advantage of the sounds fromthe best speakersmoney could buy, driven by a top-level British valve amplifier. I sat in that chair just once.
