Perhaps maddest was the purchase of a Land Rover 109 inch station wagon. It belonged to a guy migrating to Portugal from Gloucester Docks in an old trawler. He had two Land Rovers but only deck space for one so we took the station wagon, resplendent in RAF blue, and he took £3,400 in notes ready to sail away. Crazy when we had no comeback if it all went pear-shaped.
