She might be at the helm of the oldest jewellery maison in Place Vendome, but Claire Choisne is not afraid to break with tradition. Creative director of Boucheron since 2011, she doesn’t shy away from non-traditional processes and techniques, and has been known to look far and wide for innovative and unexpected materials to incorporate into her pieces.

“I love impossible challenges,” she says, and that explains the intent behind her latest collection, Contemplation, which was nothing less than “capturing the sky”. “The theme comes first: [it’s about] finding a topic that will be inspiring enough to make me want to work on it for several years.” For Contemplation, “we wanted to highlight simple yet incredibly beautiful moments: a cloud passing overhead, a swirling murmuration of starlings”.
