“AS A CROW FLIES” describes the straightest route between two points. That’s fine for crows, but we don’t have wings. Finding the best and safest way to get from here to there requires using our brains first and then our feet. That’s especially true when faced with crossing a stream, frozen lake or fragile vegetation zone.
