THE TRUCKS TO PRESERVE NOW
Ten years ago, I presented a list of trucks that people should possibly consider to seek to preserve. The vehicles were all still – just about – available on the second-hand market, or from dealers and recoverable from yards, but now is the time to revisit the same subject, but with some different trucks.
The criteria remains the same – you can still pick these trucks up without too much hassle, or indeed initial budget. But time is running out to secure them. It’s aimed as a food for thought feature, especially for those wanting something different or wanting a cheap first time buy.
What was on the last list?
Okay, just as a reminder, these are the trucks I suggested a decade ago. They were a wide selection of vehicles, mostly non-British. They were:
Mercedes 2025/2028 6x2 tractor: Still a real rarity on the show scene, in fact a friend of mine has just recovered a knackered 1983 2028 from a field and it’s going to be a mammoth job to restore it, but I know he will.
Volvo FM10 tractor or FH12 (Mk 1) day cab tractor: Nope, not seen either of these on the show scene apart from an Irish FM10 8x4 cement mixer. But early Mk 1 FMs are a rarity, but still also – just – obtainable.
Ooooh, now we are in the obscure stakes. I saw an FS7 tractor on eBay a few years ago – I didn’t have the £5k he wanted (shame), but I was told
