ANOUSHKA SHANKAR TOUCH A CHORD

When Anoushka Shankar performs live from the Royal Albert Hall this Friday, it will be a special moment for many reasons. Not only will it be her first live show since the start of lockdown but she’ll also be marking 100 years since the birth of her father, sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar.

“It’s always exciting doing a big show, but getting back on stage afterahead of taking part in the BBC Proms virtual celebrations. “The piece I’m playing is inspired by my father and uses recordings of his ensembles that [electronic artist] Gold Panda and I rearranged to create a new work. It’s as much about presenting my music and instrument in a new light as it is about celebrating his work.”
