Lots of new implements with electric controls are still not ISObus-compatible. One of the main reasons for this is that the ISObus system is very complex to program. It takes time to get the certificate rubber stamped, which makes it a particularly expensive procedure for manufacturers with lower sales volumes.
The necessary ‘ISObus Development Software’ costs €7,500 for the first year alone. In addition, software developers who understand the full ‘ins and outs’ are in demand so are hard to find. Small and medium-sized manufacturers tend to outsource the development work to specialist electronics firms that may not be as flexible as the machinery makers
