SIMPLE SLAB DISH
YOU WILL NEED:
■ Cutting mat
■ Paper to make templates
■ Craft knife
■ Compass or something large and round to draw around
■ Red earthenware clay
■ Plastic sheet, rolling pin, roller guides (5-10mm thick)
■ Absorbent board for firming slabs quickly (dry liner board – available from builders’ merchants)
Cut out a square of paper to make a template. You can make it any size but the one shown here is 22cm square.
Divide the square into four, from corner to corner, with pencil lines.
Measure and mark a point along each line, 2cm in from the corners, then either using a compass or something large and round like a bin lid, draw an arc from each point to the next, to gently curve the sides.
Next, measure and mark a second point 7cm from each corner and draw an arc between them as you did before.
Measure, mark and draw a final set of lines, 2cm in from the last ones, to form the position for the foot.
Cut along all the drawn lines to create the templates – this will include the large main body and the foot. The innermost section of paper can be discarded.
